CARACTERÍSTICAS DEL CÁNCER DUCTAL IN SITU EN PACIENTES EVALUADOS EN EL INSTITUTO
NACIONAL DE ENFERMEDADES NEOPLÁSICAS DURANTE 1990-1999.

SUMMARY
Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is an heterogeneous not invasive lesion of the ducts of
the breast, of different behavior according to the histology, its grow up in the lobular,
ductal unit. The diagnosis has been increased with the increases use of screening
mammography. DCIS is 30-40% of all breast malignant lesion in United States, but in Peru
it represent 1.7%.
Methods: We reviewed all clinical charts of patients with DCIS at Instituto de
Enfermedades Neoplásicas, between 1990-1999.
Results: We found 83 clinical charts that fullfilled the inclusion criteria, the median
age was 48 years 71.6% have no family history of breast cancer. Most patient had nipple
discharge 24.1%, mastodinea 36.1%, breast tumor 71.6%; and 22.9% have no complaints. The
tumor was no - comedo in 72.7% and the nuclear grade was intermediate and low in 90.5%.
The median tumor size was 3 cm. The patient were treated with mastectomy 78.3% and breast
conservation 21.7%.
Conclusion: DCIS is an heterogeneous malignant tumor of the breast and the management must
be choose with clinical, surgical and pathology information.
